Florida Gators Soccer Team Facts and Stats

In less than 20 years, University of Florida has established itself as one of the premier women’s college soccer programs in the nation. Since their inaugural season in 1995, the Gators are 300-80-26 for an amazing .771 all-time winning percentage. The highlights during that span include 11 SEC titles, 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, two College Cup appreanaces and the big one in 1998, the NCAA National Championship. All of this has been accomplished under the leadership of one coach, Becky Burleigh.

A native of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Burleigh led Berry College in Georgia to a pair of NAIA national championships in 1990 and 1993 before establishing the Florida Women’s Soccer Team in 1995. Since then Burleigh has been named the NSCAA National Coach of the Year in 1998 and the SEC Coach of the Year in 1996, 2000, 2008 and 2010.

Florida has also produced 17 NSCAA All-American players, including Abby Wambach, who set Gator records for goals, assists, game-winning goals and hat tricks in a career and “saved the U.S.A.’s life” in the 2011 World Cup versus Brazil.
